Shading Device

About the Project

Our client wanted a more permanent solution to shade her south-facing outdoor living space. The space was unusable on hot summer days. The design solution incorporates four freestanding columns to which stainless steel cables can be attached in a variety of layouts. Anchor points on the underside of the home’s overhanging roof provide additional attachment for the cables. By weaving fabric through the cables or attaching sun sails, shade is provided with minimal visual distraction. The columns are designed to mimic detailing found on the Usonian-style home and blend seamlessly into the landscape when stripped of the fabric.
